About this drive

Sonmarg sits at 2,730 m at the head of the Sindh valley, about three hours from Srinagar on the Leh highway. Before you book this route

In winter the road stops at Gagangir

From roughly December to March, ordinary vehicles run only as far as Gagangir. The last stretch into Sonmarg needs a chained union cab, and so does sightseeing once you are there. That is paid directly to the union rather than to Snowline — expect somewhere around ₹2,000 one way, more for a return or a full sightseeing round. Rashid checks the current figure and tells you before you travel.

Coming back the same day

This fare is one way. A same-day return with the vehicle waiting for you at Sonmarg is priced as a full-day hire, which usually works out cheaper than two one-way runs.
